Washington D.C’s 2023 Youth Poet Laureate Sophia Hall shares her pro-tip for poetry workshops



Sophia Hall lives a double life: 17-year-old poet by day, a secret agent by night. This US Presidential Scholar nominee can be found wearing a frog bucket hat and Van Gogh socks. Her writing has been recognized by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the Library of Congress, and several other organizations. Her poem “Multiple Choice,” won grand prize in the Sixteen River Press’s Youth Poetry Contest and was subsequently nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Sophia is also is Washington, DC's 2023 YPL!

The Youth Poet Laureate (YPL) Program is a joint program of Urban Word NYC and Words, Beats & Life, Inc., with support from local government & partnering organizations, which aims to identify young writers and leaders who are committed to civic & community engagement, artistic excellence, human relations, youth activism, diversity and education across the region.
